The Mercury News published a letter from Santa Clara resident Louis Samara in support of voting YES on Measure A.  He highlights that key reasons to vote YES include that Measure A:

  • was the consensus result “to serve all Santa Clarans and honor the diversity of our city”,
  • “gives voters more power to elect the candidates they like best”, and
  • “will lead to a city council more reflective of diverse views”.

Fact Check: 

The article references a public comment from a college student who is not a resident of Santa Clara.  She accused the city of "gerrymandering". 
However, the City of Santa Clara created the district boundary along El Camino Real using an open process based on public input.  The city  districting committee held four public hearings and employed a professional demographer.  More details on the city districting process is available here:
